ARTIST STATEMENT
My project explores the concept of how time transforms memory. What I mean by transforms is that, (with time) memories can change, become blurry, lose detail, and sometimes go away entirely without us even knowing. I have explored this concept by creating a project that is comprised of two components. The first is a 6 foot by 4.5 foot piece of paper that has been covered with an estimated 11,615 watercolored pink dots. The second part of my project is a VHS filmed video that is projected on top of the watercolored paper. The content of the video is of the years 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2010. The distortion of the image comes from tampering with the physical tape I used to film with. This distortion is indicative of the idea that memory and time do not last forever.
